In 1914 yachting was a different world. The boats
were almost all handcrafted. The crews were much smaller, and
the world felt much larger. However, you could pull into any dock
up and down the Eastern Seaboard and see a familiar face. One
of those familiar faces was that of Alfred Zeidel, a tailor and
a seaman with a passion for both. Through the years Alfred developed
a reputation as being a man of his word and a man who got things
done.
Now there are several stories about how Alfred
began outfitting crews and boats and how Zeidel Nautical Apparel
came to be. But like any good fish story, over the years they
have grown. Just like Zeidel. One thing is known for certain,
it all began with a promise and a handshake.
A History of Quality
For nearly a century Zeidel has crafted the finest nautical apparel
to grace the five oceans. Put simply, no one can match Zeidel's
craftsmanship because no one has created nautical apparel for
longer. Zeidel was making uniforms when the majority of the world's
yachts were still being handcrafted from wood. While today's apparel
is created with state-of-the-art machinery, everything from crew
uniforms to casual yacht apparel, to shoes and belts and custom
embroidered flags are born out of old-world craftsmanship. In
1914, the promise came from Solomon. In 1954 it came from his
son, Alfred. Today, Bruce Zeidel is the one shaking hands and
delivering on promises. If you get the chance, ask him about his
grandfather. He has plenty of stories. |
